New ERA's main goal is to provide an independent Nepalese perspective in the design, implementation and assessment of development policies & programs by employing a wide range of quantitative, qualitative and PRA methodologies.  

New ERA is one of the first non-government, non-profit research organization founded in 1971 and registered as a private limited company to articulate Nepalese aspirations in the development process of Nepal. As a matter of policy, New ERA reinvests all operational income into upgrading the institution and conducting further research of implementing development projects aiming to alleviate rural poverty.   Its seven member Board of Directors, which includes some of Nepal's best known scholars, is elected from among the stakeholders. It approves the broad policy guidelines for the organisation. New ERA's day-to-day management is the responsibility of the Executive Committee. A five-member Executive Committee is in-charge of performing all the executive functions and also evaluates staff performance. The Committee,consists of the Executive Director, Deputy Director, a nominee of the Board and the remaining two members are elected by the staff.
