Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance (IBBS) Survey among
Female Sex Workers in
Pokhara
Valley, Round IV - 2011
Abstract: The IBBS surveys are part of
the National HIV Surveillance plan led by National Centre for AIDS and
STD Control (NCASC). The fourth round IBBS survey among the Female Sex
Workers (FSWs) in Pokhara Valley was conducted this year. The study
analyzed data on behavioural correlated of HIV/STI and assessed trend in
the prevalence of syphilis and HIV infection; knowledge of HIV/STI;
sexual and injecting behaviors among the study population. The study
also examined the socio-demographic characteristics, use of alcohol and
drugs; knowledge and practice of contraceptives among the FSWs. The
background characteristic and behavioral information was collected
through structured questionnaire. Blood samples were collected for
detection of HIV and Syphilis. The survey team provided syndromic
treatment with medicines free of cost for syndromic treatment of STIs.
