Title: Rapid Appraisal of the Girls Incentives Scheme Implemented in Doti and Dadeldhura Districts 

Abstract: Girls Incentive Programme (GIP), a pilot intervention under the School Feeding Programme (SFP), was implemented in January 2000 in all public primary schools of Dadeldhura and Doti districts with the aim to increase girls enrollment, to improve their attendance and to reduce girl dropouts. This study was to assess effectiveness of GIP on enrolment, attendance, repetition and dropout of girls in primary schools of the project districts. The study examined the role of GIP food in the income transfer of the beneficiaries families, community participation in programme implementation, the impact of the programme for schools participating in the overall implementation of the programme. It also made recommendations for the possible expansion of the programme to other SFP districts.
