Barriers and Enabling Factors Influencing the Use of a Skilled Birth Attendant among Marginalized Populations in the Mid-western Region of Nepal

Abstract: Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Nepal is still high compared to many developed countries. Indicator shows that the MMR in disadvantaged and marginalized group like Dalit and Janajati are very high compared to national indicator. This study was to identify the barriers that limit the use of skilled health providers among marginalized population in the Mid-western region of Nepal. The study assesses the factors that enable households from marginalized communities to overcome and positive and negative consequences of the decision to use a skilled health provider at childbirth.
