Title: Nepal – Developing an Investment Case for Financing Equitable Progress towards MDGs 4 and 5 in the Asia-Pacific Region: Phase 2: Equity Report.

Abstract: This was the second phase study of ‘Developing an Investment Case for Financing Equitable Progress towards MDGs 4 and 5 in the Asia-Pacific Region’, which is conducted in four countries - Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, India including Nepal. This phase two Nepal study report of the project, analyzed the activities in two major areas: (i) the equity analysis, which examined the equitable distribution of Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) indicators and (ii) the scaling – up analysis, which analyzed the scaling up strategies, associated costs and impact. These activities have been informed by both the mapping exercise, and through consultation with government and development partners in country. The study used different equity makers including geographical location, social and economic background to examine levels, trends and distribution of under-five, infant and neonatal mortality rates.
