Title: Evaluation of the Small Farmers Development Program.
Abstract: It was a national sample survey of 2,100
households representing all the ecological and development regions of the
country. Secondary information was gathered from sub-project offices of the
respective program areas. In each sample household, one male and female Small
Farmer Development Program (SFDP) member was interviewed. In addition, focus
group discussion was also held at each sample site. Data of SFDP
sites accompanied with UNICEF components, SFDP sites without UNICEF
components and non-SFDP sites to determine the status of the economic,
educational, health and immunization, nutrition and child care, sanitation,
water supply, fuel-wood collection, fodder collection, family planning, women
support service and community development.
The study examined the concept of community participation the
project has promoted as an approach to socio-economic development, activities
which are appropriate for meeting the basic needs of low-income families,
especially among women and girls. The study find out the impact of SFDP on
the overall quality of life, knowledge and skills of rural women
relating to economic opportunities, child survival and development issues,
literacy rate among the beneficiaries, especially among women and girls of
the sites.
