Title: A Report on Vitamin Capsule Coverage Survey in Karnali Zone

Abstract: Field trials revealed that childhood mortality could be significantly reduced by supplementing high dose Vitamin A capsule. Since 1992, HMG/Nepal has been initiating the National Vitamin A Deficiency Prevention and Control Program. The seventh phase of the program covered five districts of Jumla, Humla, Mugu, Kalikot and Dolpa in Karnali Zone. The main objective of this study was to determine the coverage of Vitamin A Capsule Supplementation Program in Karnali Zone. The survey found that 89% of 6-60-month old children received Vitamin A capsule in September 1996. Capsules benefited 93% among FCHVs registered children.
