Title: Nepal Demographic and Health Survey 2011
The Nepal
Demographic and Health Survey 2011 is conducted as a periodic update of
the demographic and health situation in Nepal. This is the eighth in a
series of national–level population and health surveys and the fourth
comprehensive survey conducted as part of the global Demographic and
Health Surveys (DHS) program. Technical support for this survey is
being provided by ICF Macro and financial support from United States
Agency for International Development. This study is conducted under the
aegis of Population Division, Ministry of Health and Population and
implemented by New ERA.
The main objective of this study is to update the demographic and health
indicators of Nepal by collecting relevant data and enabling monitoring
programs on family planning, maternal and child health, nutrition and
other health programs. The data collected allows for calculation of
demographic rates, particularly rates of fertility, infant and child
mortality, at the national level, for urban and rural areas and te
sub-regional domains, measure the level of contraceptive knowledge and
practice, reproductive health of women and the health of their children
and nutrition. Also included are data on knowledge of HIV/AIDS, other
sexually transmitted infection (STI). The NDHS 2011 also collects
information on gender-based violence with the use of Domestic Violence
module.
