This survey is the eighth in a series of national-level population and health surveys and the fourth comprehensive survey conducted as part of the global Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) program. The main objective of this survey was to collect the demographic data particularly data on fertility rates, abortion, and infant and child mortality. The study has measured the level of contraceptive knowledge and practice, reproductive health of women, prevalence and treatment of childhood illnesses, immunization, breastfeeding and supplementary feeding practice, HIV/AIDS/STI knowledge and prevention behaviors of women and men. The study also assesses maternal health and health care utilization; hemoglobin level and nutritional status of women and children.
