Nepal Government implemented a five year Plan of Action (1998 -2003) for the control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) in collaboration with various partners including UNICEF and JICA. The activities focused on strengthening the distribution of packet iodized salt in remote areas, construction of additional warehouses at import entry sites, launch in of a social marketing campaign for promotion of packet iodized salt and strengthening of on-going salt monitoring at various distribution levels. This study was to assess the effectiveness program and progress made towards elimination of IDD in the country. The study examined the knowledge, attitude and behaviour regarding the procurement, storage and consumption of iodized salt.
